Materials Needed: 

Yarn: Jarn Art Jeans, color 35 (main) 

Yarn: Jarn Art Jeans, color 20 (for the dress)

Crochet hook suitable for your yarn. I’m using a Clover 1.75 mm hook. 

Safety eyes with a 6 mm diameter 

For joint attachment, use joints with a 10 mm diameter 

Stuffing material (polyfill or synthetic stuffing) 

Marker for marking the beginning of the row 

Notes: 

This tutorial does not include crochet lessons. 

The finished toy’s height is 29 cm, including the horn. 

Abbreviations: 

MC – Magic Circle 

sc – single crochet 

sl st – slip stitch 

ch – chain 

inc – increase (two single crochets in one stitch) 

dec – decrease (single crochet two stitches together)

PATTERN

Legs (2 parts) 

Start with brown yarn. 

1st Row: Make 6 ch. 

2nd Row: Starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, crochet 4 sc, 3 sc in the last ch, turn, 3 sc, inc (12). 

3rd Row: inc, 3 sc, (inc)*3, 3 sc, (inc)*2 (18). 

4th Row: 24 sc through the back loops. 

5th-6th Row: 24 sc (2 rows). 

7th Row: 6 sc, (dec)*6, 6 sc (18). 

8th Row: 6 sc, (dec)*3, 6 sc (15). 

Stuff the leg. 

9th Row: (3 sc, dec)*3 (12). 

Change yarn color to yellow. 

10th-21st Row: 12 sc (12 rows). 

If you plan to use joint attachments: After crocheting 12 rows without changes, move down 2 rows and insert the joint. 

Stuff the leg. 

22nd Row: (dec)*6, close the remaining hole. 

Crochet the second leg in the same way. 

Arms (2 pieces) 

Start with brown yarn. 

1st Row: 6 sc in MC. 

2nd Row: (inc)*6 (12). 

3rd-4th Row: 12 sc (2 rows). 

Change yarn color to yellow. 

5th Row: 12 sc. 

6th-23rd Row: 12 sc (18 rows). 

For a boy, continue crocheting with yellow yarn. For a girl, change yarn color to match the dress (pink). 

24th-26th Row: 12 sc (3 rows). 

27th Row: (dec)*6, close the remaining hole. 

Body 

1st Row: 6 sc in MC. 

2nd Row: (inc)*6 (12).

If you’re using joint attachments: Count 8 sc from the marker and place an additional marker in the 9th sc. Then count 20 sc along the belly and place another marker in the 21st sc. Insert the legs between the markers in the 10th and 11th rows. 

For a boy, no need to change yarn color; continue with 42 sc (2 rows). 

For a girl, change yarn color to match the dress (pink).

16th Row: 42 hdc through the back loops.

Place the safety eyes between the 13th and 14th rows, 8 sc apart. 

If you want to make a cross-eyed giraffe, don’t insert the eyes yet. Attach them after you’ve completed the head.

22nd Row: 48 sc. 

23rd Row: 3 sc, dec, (6 sc, dec)*5, 3 sc (42). 

24th Row: 42 sc. 

25th Row: (5 sc, dec)*6 (36). 

26th Row: 2 sc, dec, (4 sc, dec)*5, 2 sc (30). 

Stuff the head partially. Then, insert the head into the neck (see photo) and continue crocheting the remaining rows: 

27th Row: (3 sc, dec)*6 (24). 

28th Row: (2 sc, dec)*6 (18). 

Secure the thread. 

Fill the head as you go, using tweezers or a chopstick. Do not overfill; keep it medium firm. 

Muzzle (White) 

Make 6 ch. 

1st Row: Starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, crochet 4 sc, 3 sc in the last ch, turn, 3 sc, inc (12). 

2nd Row: inc, 3 sc, (inc)*3, 3 sc, (inc)*2 (18). 

3rd Row: 1 sc, inc, 3 sc, (1 sc, inc)*3, 3 sc, (1 sc, inc)*2 (24). 

4th Row: 2 sc, inc, 3 sc, (2 sc, inc)*3, 3 sc, (2 sc, inc)*2 (30). 

5th-6th Row: 30 sc (2 rows). 

Cross-eyed Giraffe’s Eyes (White) 

1st Row: 6 sc in MC. 

2nd Row: (inc)*6 (12). 

3rd-4th Row: 12 sc (2 rows). 

Insert the safety eyes between the 2nd and 3rd rows. 

Ears (2 pieces) 

Use yellow yarn. 

1st Row: 6 sc in MC. 

2nd Row: 6 sc. 

3rd Row: (1 sc, inc)*3 (9). 

4th Row: 9 sc. 

5th Row: (2 sc, inc)*3 (12). 

6th Row: 12 sc. 

7th Row: (2 sc, dec)*3 (9). 

8th Row: (1 sc, dec)*3 (6). 

Fold the ear in half and crochet 3 sc through both loops of the stitches. 

Horns (2 pieces) 

Use brown yarn. 

1st Row: 6 sc in MC. 

2nd Row: (inc)*6 (12). 

3rd-5th Row: 12 sc (3 rows). 

6th Row: (2 sc, dec)*3 (9). 

7th Row: (1 sc, dec)*3 (6). 

Stuff the horns. 

Change yarn color to yellow. 

8th-10th Row: 6 sc (3 rows). 

Skirt for the Girl’s Dress 

Attach pink yarn to the loops from the 16th row and start crocheting the skirt. 

1st Row: Ch 2, make a hdc in the same loop as the chain, then make an increase in each loop around (84). 

2nd-6th Row: 84 hdc, beginning each row with a ch-2 (5 rows). 

Overalls for the Boy 

Leave a long thread. Make 48 ch and a ch-2. 

1st Row: 48 hdc. 

2nd Row: (7 hdc, inc hdc)*6 (54). 

3rd-5th Row: 54 hdc, beginning each row with a ch-2. 

Next, crochet the shorts: 

6th Row: Crochet 27 hdc, connect it with the center of the overalls. 

7th-8th Row: Crochet 27 hdc in a circle. 

Crochet the second part of the shorts in the same way. 

Mark the middle of the overalls with markers (I got 11 hdc). 

1st Row: 11 hdc. 

2nd-4th Row: 11 hdc (3 rows). 

Do not cut the thread; crochet straps for the overalls, making 24 ch. 

1st Row: Turn the crochet work around, make 23 sl st in the opposite direction. 

Leave the thread for sewing the button. 

Crochet the second strap in the same way. 

Assembly of the Toy: 

Sew the horns between the 4th and 5th rows. 

Sew the ears 2 rows below the horns. 

Sew the muzzle between the 15th and 16th rows. 

For the cross-eyed giraffe, sew the eyes above the giraffe’s muzzle.
