LIST OF MATERIALS 

To crochet a llama, you will need: 

Yarn: Yarnart Jeans No07 (beige) less than half a skein and a bit of No53 for eye, nose, and eyebrow details. 

Yarn: Wolans Bunny Baby No02 (cream color) or equivalent. White can also be used. 

Crochet hook 2 mm. 

Safety eyes with a diameter. 

Stuffing. 

Large-eyed needle for sewing pieces together. 

Pins for securing pieces. 

Scissors. 

Marker, you can also use just a piece of yarn. 

ABBREVIATIONS 

MR – Magic Ring 

Sc – single crochet 

Inc – increase (2 sc in one stitch) 

Dec – decrease (sc 2 together)

PATTERN 

Ears 

Crochet the ears with beige yarn. 

1: MR, 6 sc (6) 

2: (1 sc, inc) * 3 = 9 sc (9) 

3: 1 sc, inc, (2 sc, inc) * 2, 1 sc = 12 sc (12) 

4: (3 sc, inc) * 3 = 15 sc (15) 

5-9: 5 rows of 15 sc each (15) 

10: (3 sc, dec) * 3 = 12 sc (12) 

11: Fold in half and sew together 6 sc, then fold in half again and sew the ends. 

Finish crocheting and leave a tail for sewing. 

Sew the ears onto the top of the head in the 4th row, offset from the center of the eyes. 

Face 

Crochet with beige yarn.

Finish crocheting and leave a tail for sewing. 

Head 

Crochet all elements with plush yarn using the same hook as for cotton elements. 

1: MR, 6 sc (6)

Pull tight and fasten off. 

Sew the face between the eyes from row 8 to row 1. 

Eye Embroidery 

Do deep eye embroidery (pulling thread tightly). 

Insert a white or cream Yarnart Jeans thread at the bottom of the head, 1 row down the middle (thread insertion point), pull it out on the outer side of the left eye in the left bottom corner (A1). Then insert it into the right bottom corner of the left eye (A2) and pull it out at the bottom of the head, 1 sc away from the insertion point. Pull the eye tight with both thread ends, tie a knot. Similarly tighten the right eye evenly to the left at points A3 and A4. After that, insert the needle in the same place at the bottom of the head and pull it out from the inside in the middle of the left eye (B1). Then insert it at the bottom of the eye in the middle (B2), pulling it out at the bottom of the head, moving 1 sc away from the insertion point, tie a knot and hide the thread. Similarly, tighten the second eye at points B3 and B4. Cut and hide the thread. 

Eyelashes, Nose, Eyebrows 

Embroider all with a single thread. Take a black Yarnart Jeans thread and pull out a thin strand. Eyelashes: Insert the needle at the bottom of the head and pull it out at the top of the eye, moving 2 sc away from it (V1). Then insert the thread at point V2, bypassing the eye’s surface with the thread, and pull it out at the bottom of the head, slightly away from the insertion point, tie a knot. Do the same with the second eye at points V3 and V4. Eyebrows: The left eyebrow starts 2 rows above and V1 and upwards diagonally by 2 sc in a row. Do the right one similarly. Nose: Embroider a horizontal line between the 2nd and 3rd rows, the length of 6 sc, and a vertical one, starting from the middle of the horizontal line and ending between the 3rd and 4th rows (see photo). Return the thread down the head, shifting by 1 sc from the insertion point, tie a knot and hide. 

Bangs 

Crochet with beige yarn: chain, then from the 2nd chain from the hook, crochet 4 sc and sl st in the same last 4th chain, then in each of the remaining chains, crochet a chain of 5 sc down, starting from the 2nd chain. sc, sl st in the same last 5th chain. Repeat the same with the remaining chains. You should have 7 curls. Sew between the ears. If you want a thicker bang, you can increase the number of initial chains. 

Front Legs 

Begin with beige yarn: 

1: MR, 6 sc (6) 

2: (inc) * 6 = 12 sc (12) 

3: 12 sc 

4: (dec, 8 sc) (10). 

Switch to plush yarn. Stuff the leg as you crochet until the 9th row. 

5-10: 6 rows of 10 sc each (10) 

11: (1 sc, dec, 7 sc) (9) 

12: (dec, 7 sc) (8). 

Fold the leg and crochet through both layers of 4 sc. Crochet the second leg in the same way. 

Lower Legs – Body 

Left leg: 

Begin with beige yarn: 

1: 5 ch, from the second ch from the hook, crochet 1 sc, 2 sc, 3 sc in 1, then continue along the chain, 2 sc, inc (10). 

2: inc, 2 sc, inc, 1 sc, inc, 3 sc, inc (14). 

3: 3 sc in 1, 5 sc, 3 sc in 1, 5 sc, inc, 1 sc (20). 

4: 20 sc (20). 

5: 4 sc, 6 dec, 4 sc (14). 

Switch to plush yarn. Stuff with fiberfill. 

6: 5 sc, dec, 5 sc (12).

pom pom maker (this is my absolute favorite!) 

One more tip before you get started… Stuff VERY firmly, especially the head. You will almost always need more than you think you need. I like to stuff them as full as I can. If you understuff, the nose won’t be defined enough. But don’t stuff TOO much or your stitches will stretch. The main problem I see with amigurumi projects is that they are under-stuffed. 

Abbreviations 

SC– single crochet 

SC INC– single crochet increase (2 SC in each stitch) 

INV DEC– Invisible decrease (put hook through the FRONT LOOP ONLY of two consecutive stitches [two loops on hook] Yarn over pull through both loops. [two loops on hook] Yarn over pull through two loops) 

Magic Circle– Make a loop, leaving a long tail to work with. Insert hook in center of loop, yarn over and draw up a loop. Yarn over, pull through to make the first chain (this does not count as a stitch!). Continue to crochet over the loop and tail with the number of stitches called for. (If you need 6 SC, then crochet 6 SC inside the ring.) Pull the tail to close the circle. 

Always move your stitch marker to the last stitch in the round. This pattern is worked in continuous rounds. 

Pattern 

Head 

Using the worsted weight yarn: 

Round 1: In a magic circle, 6 SC. 

Round 2: SC INC in each around. (12) 

Round 3: SC in first, SC INC in next. Repeat around. (18) 

Rounds 4-5: SC in each around (18) 

Round 6: SC in first 2, SC INC in next. Repeat around. (24) 

Round 7-8: SC in each around. (24)

Round 21: SC in the first 3, INV DEC in the next. Repeat around. (24)

Fasten off and carefully sew the remaining hole closed. 

Ears (make two) 

Round 1: In a magic circle, 6 SC.

Round 2: SC INC in each around. (12) 

Round 3: SC in first, SC INC in next. Repeat around. (18)

Round 5: SC in first 3, SC INC in next. Repeat around. (30) 

Round 6: SC in first 4, SC INC in next. Repeat around. (36) 

Round 7: SC in first 5, SC INC in next. Repeat around. (42) 

Rounds 8-17: SC in each around. (42) 

Round 18: SC in the first 5, INV DEC in the next. Repeat around. (36)

Neck 

Chain 21. Attach to the first chain so you have a circle. Take care not to twist the chain when you connect it. Attach the stitch marker here. Crochet in each stitch around, for a total of 7 rows. 

Pin this tube to the front of the body. Make sure it is centered, then attach the bottom by sewing around, multiple times if you need to. Stuff it very well and pin the head to the top. Sew the head on. 

Legs (Make 4) 

Starting with the worsted weight yarn 

Round 1: In a magic circle, 6 SC. 

Round 2: SC INC in each around (12) 

Round 3: SC in first, SC INC in next. Repeat around. (18) 

Rounds 4-10: SC in each around (18) 

Change to the pipsqueak yarn. 

Rounds 11-18: SC in each around. (18) 

Fasten off and leave a long tail to sew onto the body. Stuff up to the worsted weight line but don’t stuff too much more than that. 

When you attach the legs, use pins and a large needle. I pin the front legs first. I made sure the legs both lay flat on the table. If helpful, prop the back part of the body on something even with the legs. Attach the tops. Repeat with the back legs.

Round 3-7: SC in each around. (12) 

Fasten off and leave a long tail to sew onto the body. I did not stuff my tail, just flattened it!

Neck Pom Poms 

I made 3 pom poms using the smallest Clover pom maker (the pink one). Chain 35 and fasten off. Sew two pom poms on one end and one on the other. I just twisted the one around the two to fasten. 

Blanket 

Row 1: Chain 30 and turn. HDC in the second chain from the end. 

Rows 2-3: HDC in each stitch across. (28) 

Row 3: Change to an accent color. SC in each across. (28) 

Rows 4-5: HDC in each stitch across. (28) 

Row 6: Change to an accent color. SC in each across. (28) 

Rows 7-8: HDC in each stitch across. (28) 

Row 9: Change to an accent color. SC in each across. (28) 

Rows 10-11: HDC in each stitch across. (28) 

Cut 3 inch pieces for the fringe. Attach to the edge by folding the pieces in half and pulling through the edge of the blanket with your hook. Pull the two edges through the loop and pull tight.
